Will Credit Difficulties Stop Your Job Search Cold?

By Joseph Turner Did you know that credit difficulties can stop you dead in your tracks and keep you from being hired? Credit problems will stress you to the max, strain your personal relationships, crush your morale and possibly paralyze you from taking necessary actions in your job search. It can also stop you from being hired! Remember when you signed on the dotted line of the job application? Somewhere in fine print there was a line that gave the employer the right to run a credit check. A bad credit rating has the effect of ending your candidacy for a job with all too many companies as it is an indication of how you handle fiscal responsibilities. Rightly or wrongly, they make the assumption that this is how you might perform as a future employee by acting irresponsibly, even stealing from the company. Here’s a tip all of us should use at least once a year: Find out your credit rating. You should, in fact, find out what your credit rating is at least once a year. Under the FACT Act amendments to the Fair Credit Reporting Act you are entitled to one free credit file disclosure in a 12 month period from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. To request your free annual disclosure you may contact the Central Source online at www.annualcreditreport.com or you can also contact them by calling toll free (877) FACTACT. (322-8228) The three largest consumer credit reporting companies are: CBI/Equifax www.equifax.com, Experian www.experian.com and TransUnion Credit Information www.transunion.com. You can also go directly to their websites. However, they will charge you for a credit report. The free annual report is available only through the www.annualcreditreport.com link and includes a report from all three companies. The ratings range from 450 to 850. The higher the number the better the rating. Should you find any discrepancies, report them to the firm immediately. While you are unemployed, you may not always be able to avoid credit difficulties, but you should never let them stop you from being hired. Ever. Olive Drab Duck - Arts And Crafts With Your Kids!

By Margarette Tustle A paper mache olive drab duck will make a great birthday and/or celebration piata. A paper mache olive drab duck will also make a wonderful creative arts and crafts project for you and your family on a sunny (or rainy) day. The olive drab duck project is both inexpensive and easy to do. You can complete the olive drab duck project from the comforts of your own home. Supplies: 2 balloons (large); newspaper ripped into long pieces; glue; flour; tape; scissors; olive drab colored feathers (or any other color feather you wish to decorate your duck with); 1 toilet paper roll; yellow construction paper; orange tissue paper; and other miscellaneous fun decorations (sequins, glitter, etc.). Please note: the following directions do not have instructions on how to make the paper mache glue. Directions For Olive Drab Duck Paper Mache Project: Do you have all of your olive drab duck project supplies in one space? Make a detailed list of what you have at home and what you need to purchase at the store for the olive drab duck paper mache. The feet of the olive drab duck will come first. The feet are the easiest part of the project and will be drying while you work on the body. Feet: Fold the toilet paper roll in half; cut in into two. You will then cut two half moons out of one end of both rolls. If you want to look at what duck feet look like, go online or to the library for reference. Next, wrap the cardboard feet with orange tissue paper. Glue well and make sure the feet are flat. Next you will make the body of the duck. Blow up one balloon until it is full of air. Blow up the second balloon until it is approximately the size of the balloon you blew up first. This will be the ducks head. Tape the smaller balloon to the larger balloon where you want the head of the olive drab duck to be. Tape it securely. You will have to paper mache between two and four layers onto the olive drab duck to ensure its sturdiness. Let this round of layering dry completely 100% before moving on to the next step. This will usually take up to 24 hours. If you have decided to make a piata, you will cut a small hole or opening on the top of the duck to put the candy and goodies in. Make sure the duck is dry before cutting the hole. You will then cover the duck with one to two more layers of paper mache. Thick is good. Take your olive drab colored feathers and start gluing. If you opt not to use the color olive drab, go funky with bright colors. Glue the feet to the bottom of the duck, then cut a beak from the yellow construction paper and glue to face. Once you have used all of your fun decorating materials, glue on glitter will give your duck a great wet-duck look. This paper mache project is easy and a fun activity to do arts and crafts with your child. Margarette Tustle writes ideas for the home and the family. Legal Nurse Consultant

By Melissa Steele Nurses with an interest for both emergency room trauma and courtroom drama may want to pursue a nursing degree in legal nurse consulting. Legal nurse consultants use their healthcare know-how in conjunction with an interest in the legal system to have a rewarding career in this combined profession. Legal nurse consultants are commonly called by defense attorneys and prosecutors for their forensic or pharmacological familiarity to help determine difficult criminal or civil cases. More commonly, legal nurse consultants consult with attorneys and others in the legal field on medical malpractice, personal injury, workers’ compensation and other healthcare-related cases. These legal specialists are responsible for interviewing clients, reviews medical records, researches and summarizes medical literature, helps evaluate liabilities and damages, assists with depositions, prepares exhibits, and identifies and retains expert witnesses. Legal nurse consultants are registered nurses who have previously worked in emergency rooms, or in other disciplines, who then take on focused training at legal nurse consulting schools. These schools offer on-campus or online nursing degree coursework in legal ethics, personal injury cases, forensic science, and legal writing to name a few. There are also dedicated classes in legal issues about medical malpractice, auto accident injury, lower back pain, and product liability. Certified legal nurse consultants are regularly contracted to work with private attorneys and corporate lawyers. However, many find work outside the courtroom. Some take positions with hospitals, insurance companies, and government agencies. Many are hired to help provide quality assurance at pharmaceutical firms and chemical companies. About half of all legal nurse consultants work on staff at law firms, insurance companies and other institutions, and their salaries are just about the same as those of hospital nursing administrators, who earn about $80,000, according to a 2004 Nursing Management salary survey. The other half of legal nurse consultants work independently and earn $100 to $150 an hour or more, Jobs in the profession are expected to grow throughout the next 10 years as more and more companies introduce medications and devices that are federally approved, or reviewed in the courtroom or by government agencies. While formal training in legal nurse consulting is not required to practice, training and educational programs are available at universities, community colleges, and other private and public institutions. Looking for an Alternative Building Material-How Do Danielle Steel Novels Sound

By Aldene Fredenburg Straw bale housing, subterranean homes, houses made of flying concrete-prospective homeowners and contractors are coming up an increasing variety of alternative building materials that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. But Ive got another idea; I want to build a home out of Danielle Steel novels. I got the idea during a period when I was selling some of my book collection over the Internet. When I ran out of my own books I started looking for more at yard sales and library book sales, and quickly learned that some used books are worth more than others. How-to books did well, as did New Age spirituality books. You couldnt pay people to take Danielle Steel novels off your hands. The reason? The things were bestsellers, and were printed and sold in the millions. Everyone who could conceivably want a Danielle Steel novel had apparently already bought one. And there came the idea. People make houses out of straw bales; why not Danielle Steel novels? Create chicken wire walls, shore them up with plywood casts, dump in the Danielle Steel novels along with John Grisham books, Readers Digest Condensed Books, and other pulp fiction, and pour on the concrete. Voila! A Danielle Steel home, perfect for the literati and the romantics among us. Imagine how the cost of a home would decrease if, say, Habitat for Humanity would go on a pulp fiction drive, asking for donations of battered, beat-up paperbacks to use for the walls of its homes. Imagine the families that would be able to buy these low-cost homes. There is a potential housing revolution out there just waiting for usall thanks to Danielle Steel. Understanding Your ACS Student Loan

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mark_Kessler]Mark Kessler An ACS student loan is one that is serviced by Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., a company that is known for outsourcing technology and business solutions. Many universities use the ACS student loan because of the companys reputation for using technology to smooth over some of the more difficult aspects of loan services. With an ACS student loan, students can make payments online, instantly see the status of an account, change personal details like name and address, and receive email notification when payments have been processed. A number of different financial aid programs fall under the heading of an ACS student loan. One of the major ACS student loan groups is the Campus Based Student Loan Program (CBSL), which includes Federal Perkins Loans, Nursing Student Loans (NSL), and Institutional Loan Programs, among others. Another major group of educational loans handled by ACS is the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFEL), which includes the Stafford (GSL) Loans, PLUS loans to parents of students, and loan consolidation services. ACS also handles a group of educational loans donated by a variety of private companies. For those who do not already have an ACS student loan, applications and guidelines for different financial aid options are available online. The ACS website gives a clear example of how to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, and demonstrates what the results mean in terms of your eligibility for financial aid. Furthermore, applications for both Stafford and PLUS loans for parents can be found on the ACS website, and can be completed and sent in online. If you have an ACS student loan already, you might be interested in learning about the benefits of student loan consolidation. The ACS website provides information and application forms that could help you lock in a lower rate and reduce your monthly payment amount. Other tools that might help you with your ACS student loan include a repayment calculator, IRS guidelines about how to use your student loans for tax relief, and a glossary of important student loan-related terms. All in all, an ACS student loan is one that will give the borrower the most ease and flexibility when it comes to loan servicing from application to repayment and consolidation. ACS works with a number of universities across the United States, including the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Vermont. Even if your specific university does not offer student loans handled by ACS, their website is a treasure trove of helpful tools and information, and well worth a look. Trout Fishing Tips - In Search of the Trophy Trout

By Mike Eggert Have you ever dreamed of landing that big trout? Fishing for trout of any size is great fun, but Im talking about those ten to twelve pounders, or even larger. You can do it, but first you have to find them. Unless you live in the remote back country of the west, or some place where you have access to areas that have not had a lot of fishing pressure, then you have been limited to that kind of trout fishing, and like most of us, have settled for catching and releasing countless ten inch stock trout. Today we have to search out those places where the big fish can be found. Keep in mind almost all waters have a few good fish, the trick is how to catch them. If you fish the streams most of the time and have access to say three miles of stream, start your fishing a half mile or so from camp. You will be way ahead of most of the other fishermen in camp. Be sure to get out early as the best fishing will be right after day light. One other thing, very important, is to have a good selection of trout lures with you and maybe a few night crawlers. The fish, most times, will be just off the current, feeding. Try casting up stream above any eddy’s or any rocks that might be exposed. Keep all slack out of the line and make sure your bait is getting down in the water. The bigger trout will be around cover of some kind. Continue fishing up stream, check and fish all pools and cut backs in the bank. Make sure after the sun is up your shadow does not show on the water. Don’t forget to change lures after a while if you are not having any luck. A different bait in the same pool might get results. You might catch trout any time of day, although I have found, depending on the pressure, the best fishing is in the first three hours in the morning and the last two hours before sunset. Sometimes, again depending on the pressure, around three in the afternoon can be productive. These fish are likely ones that did not compete well in the early morning hours for any viable food. The farther you get up stream away from the crowd the better your chances are of catching bigger trout. If the water is high and a little fast you might want heavier trout lures, and if the water is a little murky you might try using a spinner bait that will be easier for the fish to see. Remember, they won’t strike if they can’t see the lure. Some times all it takes is the flash of the spinner to get a trout to strike and you never know it just might be that monster trout you have been dreaming about. No matter what, you wont catch anything if you dont get out there and get your trout lures wet. Good luck and great fishing! Pain Relievers and Children

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jill_L._Ferguson] Jill L. Ferguson Your five-year-old complains of a headache. What do you do? How does the medical profession recommend you treat your childs ailments and pains? With so many choices in the analgesic (painkiller) market today, choosing a pain relief medication can be a difficult and confusing task. There are pros and cons to each type of analgesic, and at least one of them may not be appropriate for children or teenagers. So, what are your options? Acetaminophen Acetaminophen, known best by its brand names of Tylenol and Panadol, relieves mild pain and reduces fever. According to Dr. Leora Kuttner, author of A Child in Pain: How to Help, What to Do, Scientists still do not know exactly how it achieves both peripheral and central pain relief. But what they do know is that this pain killer is helpful to children who are teething, who have colds and/or influenza, sore throats, sinus pressure and fevers 102 degrees Fahrenheit and below. Acetaminophen is recommended for people who cannot take aspirin due to aspirin-related allergies, sensitive or easily irritated stomachs or ringing in the ears. Acetaminophen contains no aspirin. It is safe for use by infants, children and teenagers. A possible side effect of using acetaminophen-based products is that high doses or regular-long-term use can cause liver damage, so it should not be used by anyone with liver disease or who is anemic. Also, doctors do not recommend using Tylenol and similar products if the fever is over 102 for more than three days or for fevers that keep returning. One dose of acetaminophen (follow directions for age and weight on the bottle, and do not administer more than five times in one day) will typically last for four to six hours. Aspirin Aspirin is classified into the family of drugs called NSAIDs or Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs. These painkillers halt the synthesis of prostaglandins (inflammatory substances) by working at the site of the pain, counteracting chemicals that promote pain transmission. Aspirin is used for relieving pain, swelling and fever in adults. It also relieves mild itching and is great for treating arthritis and other conditions. Twenty years ago, orange-flavored chewable baby aspirins were a common way to treat childhood ailments. But times have changed. Aspirin, in recent years, has been linked to a rare but serious brain and liver disorder called Reyes syndrome in children and teenagers. For this reason, doctors recommend using other analgesics for infants, children and teenagers. In addition to stomach irritation, aspirin is dangerous for people who have allergies to it, are taking blood-thinners, or have gout or ulcers. People with asthma or hearing loss may also have problems taking it. Ibuprofen Ibuprofen, the newest analgesic on the market, is part of the NSAIDs family of drugs. The brand names include both Childrens Motrin and Childrens Advil. This drug has been available for children since 1989first as a prescription drug and then, since 1996, as an over-the-counter medication. Ibuprofen is an effective reliever of pain, fever and inflammation. This NSAID can be used to treat childrens sore throats, toothaches, earaches, fevers over 102 degrees Fahrenheit, broken bone and other injuries. Certain conditions can cause ibuprofen to have serious side effects. If a child is dehydrated during an illness, blood flow to the kidneys is decreased. Ibuprofen use also decreases the blood flow to the kidneys. For someone who is already dehydrated, taking this analgesic may further complicate his illness or cause other significant problems. Doctors also advise against using ibuprofen if the child has asthma and/or nasal polyps, stomach or intestinal disorders, a skin condition called angioedema, an aspirin allergy, liver or kidney disease, chicken pox and/or a blood clotting disorder. Studies are still be done on ibuprofen products and because of this, many doctors recommend it as a second choice in childrens pain relief. A study, whose results were discussed at the November 1997 meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, showed that ibuprofen may do its job too well and may mask symptoms. Danielle Zerr, M.D., a fellow at Childrens Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle, stated, Ibuprofen is effective as an antipyretic, masking inflammation and symptoms, and delaying a trip to the physician. Zerr presented data on a necrotizing fasciitis (NFa soft tissue infection) outbreak in Washington State. Children who used ibuprofen often had masked the beginning of secondary symptoms, delaying appropriate treatment. But other studies have found ibuprofen to be safe and effective for treating certain pains in children. Ibuprofen should only be taken with meals or milk, and bottle or box directions should be consulted for proper dosage according to the childs weight and age. Avoid giving this product to children under the age of six months. Ibuprofens effects last for six to eight hours, and should not be given for more than three consecutive days without a doctors approval. How to Protect Your Child Communicate with the childs other caretakers to avoid unintentional over-medicating. Refrain from giving aspirin to your child of any age. Avoid giving an infant ibuprofen. Be aware of the products dosage, paying strict attention to the words extra-strength and regular strength. Infants liquid painkiller often has a higher concentrate than the childrens version. If your child has a high fever (over 102) or has any swelling, and is not aspirin-allergic, some brand of ibuprofen may be your best choice of pain reliever. Always consult your doctor if you are unsure about proper dosage, which analgesic to give your child, or if you have any questions. Jill L. Ferguson is an author, editor, public speaker, consultant and professor. She has written over 700 published articles, essays and poems. Her novel, Sometimes Art Can’t Save You, published by In Your Face Ink, debuted at the end of 2005. She chairs the General Education Department at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
